Water Conservation

In the desert, water conservation is paramount. Gone are the large expanses of manicured lawns that required gallons of water to keep them green year around. Sustainable landscaping requires the use of native, drought resistant plants and efficient water distribution systems. re-design il worked to assemble and install drip irrigation systems in the LEED homes that would ensure plant growth and water conservation.

LEED Plantinum Homes Interior Insulation

The homes were sealed by caulking them throughout. Any areas that might allow air from the outside to penetrate into the homes were sealed. This included light fixture boxes and holes drilled into studs to thread electrical wires and plumbing tubes through.

LEED Platinum Houses in Nevada

Teaming with Habitat for Humanity in Nevada, re-design il worked to build the first two LEED Certified Platinum homes in Henderson, Nevada. These homes are environmentally sustainable and energy efficient. On the outside the houses envelope is insulated with Dow styrofoam then Insulfoam then it is stuccoed.

Xeriscaping NV

Nevada's dry, arid climate is a challenge for any landscape designer. With the use of rocks, drought resistant plants, and drip irrigation systems, the desert can be made to bloom. While xeriscaping is great for desert climates, it can be used in a variety of regions. Benefits of xeriscaping include: water savings, a decrease in garden maintenance, an increase in property values, a limited use of fertilizers or pesticides and an increase in wildlife habitats.

In order to re-design this intimate Nevada garden space we used a combination of potted plants and sown seeds. Wildflowers were chosen as the seedlings of choice because they are resilient and drought resistant. They also care for themselves quite well and can grow in even the harshest of environments. Desert roses were also planted and a drip irrigation system installed. A combination of large and small rocks were used to create visual interest and texture.
